300 weak buildings recognized,says BBMP chief

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has recognized as many as 300 weak and dilapidated buildings throughout the town which are harmful for habitation.

Civic Chief Gaurav Gupta instructed The Hindu that the buildings have been recognized by the zonal BBMP officers throughout the emergency survey, the report on which will probably be submitted quickly.

The same train had been taken up round two years in the past when 185 weak and dilapidated buildings had been recognized. Of those, solely 10 have been demolished thus far. The BBMP, Mr. Gupta stated, had issued notices to the homeowners of the remaining 175 buildings.

“We are also trying to assess if the buildings that were identified earlier are still dangerous. They are on our watch list,” he stated.

He added that if there is a matter of hazard to public security, the BBMP would instantly take up demolition. “In some cases, the residents may resist. However, if there is impending danger, the priority is to ensure that there is no loss of life,” he acknowledged.
